Through your Lens...

On 29.Jan.2011, Beautiful cloudy and rainy morning, we went university to attend a lecture of citizen journalism organized by mass communication department, for the mass communicators.
Whether the word “media” is buzzing around everyone or it’s the hype that is increasing the interaction with people and that is why Mr. Owais Mangalwala, producer and anchor in Dawn News along with his two team members, introduced “citizen journalism”, a new trend among news channels.
“When the people (audience) use the tools of journalism to communicate each other, known as citizen journalism,” defined Mr. Owais Mangalwala. Furthermore, he highlighted key points for the citizen journalists that how can he/she be a part of citizen journalism?
You experience anything which you think, should be shared with others… Then share it…
You are not getting any proper place at newspaper and channels then don’t get worried you can share and communicate with others through blogs and stuffs.
You have an ability to discover new things or any incidents which have not been shared yet on media. Go ahead without wasting your time.
You are experienced, good at advice then share your expertise with anyone because a reason and cause of anything would be well known by an experienced and when an experienced person shares his experience, it comes under citizen journalism.
You got your ways now open your wings and ready to fly… but before it keep 2 point in your mind that you have to highlight those issues which have been neglected by media and those issues too that media shows negatively.
Meanwhile, he gave 14 points of journalism which were actually basic points for journalist. Either it wasn’t a lecture of Pak-studies, (Quaid-e-Azam’s 14 points) and not even cramming it all but still should keep them in mind. Along with, he answered the questions asked by all students and satisfied them through his answers.
After, this session of introducing new way of journalism Ms. Humera, lecturer of mass-com dept thanked and appreciated the DAWN News team. At the end, one member of Dawn news team took comments from audience about their upcoming show “Mast Morning”.
